It was another phenomenal weekend of racing for the BMC-Vifit Pro Triathlon Team. Pablo Dapena Gonzalez ran his way to a silver medal at the ITU Long Distance World Championships in his home town in Pontevedra. On the same day Emma Pallant took back to back victories in the BEST Centre Olympic distance triathlon in Mallorca. Team mates Will Clarke and Manuel Küng finished second and third in the men's race.
Strong performance to take silver
As defending champion Pablo Dapena produced an excellent performance in his hometown to claim second place. Pablo was in contention all day long. The BMC-Vifit athlete came of the water in 4th place and stayed in the lead group throughout the entire 110k bike leg. In the opening stages of the 30k run, Pablo Dapena had to leave a small gap on the lead. But Pablo looked incredibly strong and held onto second to run his way to an excellent silver medal at the World Championships (5:11:21). Fellow Spanjard Javier Gomez (5:05:39) crowned himself World Champion with Kovacic claiming bronze (5:12:02).
Emotional
An emotional Pablo Dapena Gonzalez looked back at his performance: "What can I say. Thank you Pontevedra for being an example for the sport. What I expierenced in this city today was absolutely amazing. The athmosphere on the course and the support out there was very special and unique. I was very emotional crossing the finish line, I never expected a crowd like this. I stopped before the finish to take it all in and enjoy it. I’ll never forget this in my life".
