Fantastic bronze medal for Sam Dickinson at the Olympic Games in Paris

Bronze medal for Sam Dickinson after a special performance at the Olympic Games in Paris as part of an outstanding British Mixed Relay Team

After producing an excellent performance and piloting team mate Alex Yee to Olympic Gold in the individual event, Sam Dickinson has his sight set on a medal of his own in the mixed relay. Sam produced a special 3rd leg to give his British team mate a five second lead at the start of the final leg. A stunning finish saw Great Britain narrowly miss out on a silver medal in a photo finish to take bronze in the triathlon mixed team relay at Paris 2024. Germany took the gold medal by just one second.

Dream became reality

Sam Dickinson who was on leg three for Team GB, started his leg in second place and quickly retook the lead in the water. He was joined by German's Lührs on the bike leg with the rest of the field stretched out behind them. Dickinson produced a superb bike performance and was the driving force to grow the gap with the first chasers.

A slick T2 then gave Dickinson a small advantage at the start of the run and at the 900m mark he was still out in front by just one second. The Brit kicked on in the closing metres to give his team mate Potter a five second lead at the start of the final leg. Ultimate it came down to a sprint finish in the final leg with Germany's Lindemann the first across the line to claim the gold medal as Potter narrowly missed out on a silver medal, losing in a photo finish to American Knibb.

With the bronze medal around his neck, Dickinson reflected on his performance: "The goal was to race to my potential and couldn’t be more grateful to my team for making this possible. My dreams became reality this week. I hope we’ve managed to inspire the next generation of Olympic athletes just like 2012 inspired me! I am very proud of my performance today. I felt very strong in all 3 disclipines, was really able to push the pace on the bike to stay in front. On the run I went all out and was able to open up a small gap to hand over in the lead. My objective was to deliver an outstanding performance and I am really proud I was able to do so. To everyone who’s been a part of this journey, big or small. Thank you."
