BMC Pro Triathlon Team presents team line up for 2025

•    BMC Pro Triathlon Team presents team roster for 2025
•    7 athletes confirmed, 5 nations represented
•    3 new faces in the team

It was a decade ago in 2013 that BMC and Uplace, as founding partners, joined forces to start a journey to become one of the worlds’ leading triathlon projects. Since the launch of the international Team in 2014 the results have been outstanding with the team winning over 150 races and finishing on the podium in more than 300 of them, including the Ironman World Title in Hawaii in 2022, a Bronze medal at the most recent Paris Olympics Mixed Relay event, a podium finish in the 2024 overall Ironman Pro Series standings, victory at the PTO European Open Championship in 2023, the ITU LD World Title in 2021, 11 continental championship titles, 3 Vice-World titles and victories in the most prestigious races on the calendar. CEO, Bob De Wolf reflects: “We are entering our 12th season as a top international team and it is fantastic to be able to continue building on such a tremendous project. The constant increase in level, strength in depth and overall quality of the professional triathlon field continues to amaze me and this has exponentially increased in recent years to make the professional triathlon sport the most competitive I have ever witnessed. 2024 was also a unique year and brought new dynamics with the launch of both the Ironman Pro Series and the T100 Series. It was great to see the BMC team colours represented at the front and centre throughout both series resulting in an incredible podium finish at the end of season Ironman Pro Series standings and a 6th place finish in the T100 Series rankings. Add to that the bronze medal of Sam Dickinson at the Paris Olympics, the silver medal at the North American Ironman Championship and various wins and podiums over the Ironman and Challenge circuit, to make for another successful season. Obviously, such results can only be achieved by the commitment and contributions of our sponsors and partners and we are therefore incredibly grateful for their continued support. We want to continue winning big races next season and keep our position as one of the leading teams in the world. For next year our ambition is very clear and that is to compete for another World Title”, says De Wolf. “We have been Ironman World Champion, ITU LD World Champion, and finished on a World Championship podium on six occasions in the past few years. I strongly believe we have the operational set up, the support of fantastic partners and the quality in the team to do so.”

Team line-up confirmed

The BMC Pro Triathlon Team has the clear ambition to continue to be a leading team in long distance triathlon. De Wolf indicates: “As we continue to set out very ambitious targets for the years to come, I am very proud and pleased with the team line up we have confirmed for next year: Lucy Byram (GBR), Sam Dickinson (GBR), Miguel Hidalgo (BRA), Antonio Benito Lopez (ESP), Laura Madsen (DEN), Thor Bendix Madsen (DEN),  Clément Mignon (FRA).”

Team roster 2025:

“The cooperation with Chris Leiferman, Kristian Høgenhaug and Lucy Buckingham will come to an end at the end of this season. Bob De Wolf adds: “Chris (7 seasons), Kristian (4 seasons) and Lucy (2 seasons), have played an instrumental part in what we have been able to achieve as a team over all those years. Chris was a member of the team since 2018, Kristian since 2020 and Lucy since 2023. All three athletes have been fantastic athletes to work with and contributed to some of the most memorable moments for the BMC Pro Triathlon team. We are incredibly grateful for what Chris, Kristian and Lucy have done for the team, as top athletes, as fantastic people to work with and for the outstanding results they have achieved as a member of our team. It has been an incredible journey and we wish them all the very best with their future careers”.

Three new faces in the team

Laura Madsen is the first new athlete in the team and will join the BMC Pro Triathlon Team from next season onwards. De Wolf adds: “We are incredibly proud and excited to work with such a line-up of talent next season. Laura Madsen had a real breakthrough year in 2024, winning IM70.3 Valencia, IM70.3 Les Sables d’Olonne-Vendee, Challenge Samarkand 2024 and finishing 2nd at The Championship in Samorin. We are convinced, at the age of 22, that Laura is an incredible talent and one of the up and coming stars of the triathlon sport”.

Laura is really looking forward to the season ahead: “I am really looking forward to joining the BMC Pro Triathlon Team and become a part of a group of strong and ambitious athletes who help each other to be better. The team provides some amazing equipment, which I believe will make me perform at my very best and help me to become a better triathlete. All my life I’ve been riding bikes from BMC, and I believe that they have the fastest and coolest bike on the market!  For me to become a part of the team is a huge opportunity to grow as an athlete and with the support from all the experts in the team I am sure I will improve a lot and perform at my very best. For next year my biggest goal is to keep improving on the middle distance and to show up at races and compete for the top spots. In the longer term I have ambitions on doing great on the full distance and here I believe that with the knowledge and help from the staff behind the team will make the transition smooth”.

Also Antonio Benito Lopez is one of the new faces in the team. “Antonio had an incredible 2024 season, crowning himself World Triathlon Long Distance World Champion, European Middle Distance Champion and taking a fantastic victory in the Ironman Pro Series winning Ironman Vittoria- Gasteiz.  Antonio targets Ironman World Championships in Nice next season, an ambition we fully believe Antonio can realize next year.

Antonio Benito Lopez is really looking forward to the season ahead: “I am excited to join the BMC Pro Triathlon Team because it offers an incredible opportunity to continue improving my sports career, in addition to the opportunity of being surrounded by great athletes and incredible staff. I hope to continue improving and perform at the highest level in international competitions. As a team, it is incredible to have their support, from physical preparation to race strategy. Having this group of professionals behind me will motivate me to achieve my goals. Together, we can work to optimize every detail and achieve maximum performance.
For the 2025 season, my ambitions are clear: I want to compete at the highest level in the main middle and long distance triathlon events. With a special focus on the Ironman World Championship”.

“Miguel Hidalgo had a great season”, De Wolf continues. “We are incredibly excited to start working with him. Miguel was 10th at the recent Paris Olympics, finished 9th in the World Triathlon Championships Series and is currently ranked 9th in the World. At the age of 24, Miguel has one ambition and that is to become World Champion. Miguel will combine his ambitions over the Olympic distance with a number of races over the Ironman 70.3 distance, targeting the IM70.3 World Championship in Marbella as one of his main objectives next season. With Miguel Hidalgo we have somebody who can represent our team over the Olympic Distance and target a podium in World Championship Series. That combined with his ambitions over the half distance, make him an incredibly exciting addition to the team”.

Miguel Hidalgo is really looking forward to joining the BMC Pro Triathlon Team next season: “I am very happy and excited to be part of the BMC Pro Triathlon Team. The team has a history of over a decade and everyone involved in this project has a great knowledge of triathlon. I am eager to learn and try to absorb all the team's knowledge. I am sure that having the best equipment on the market will be super important to have a successful season. After my first podium on the WTCS circuit in 2024, I intend to get my first victory on the circuit in 2025, and of course, compete for the World title. In addition to that, the biggest goal for 2025 is to win a middle distance race and compete in my first 70.3 World Championship at the end of the year”.

Chris Leiferman looks back at his 7 fantastic years as a member of the team: “Reflecting on the past 7 years with the BMC Pro Triathlon Team that were filled with fond memories and gratitude. Even though triathlon is an individual sport, being part of a team gave me a sense of camaraderie that is hard to find outside of a team sport. Everything from traveling the world, having the chance to represent great sponsors, and meeting amazing friends along the way has been a highlight. Sporting the BMC colours in Ironman and half Ironman wins along with two top 10’s at Ironman Worlds has been something I’ll never forget. As I look ahead to my 2025 season, I want to thank Ben and Bob De Wolf for the past 7 incredible years. I look forward to following the team’s next chapter, and will see you on the starting line”!

Also Kristian Høgenhaug reflects on his 4 seasons as a member of the team: “Being a part of this team has been an incredible journey, and I’ve grown so much as an athlete over the past four seasons. From the very beginning, Ben and Bob’s trust and support—especially during the challenging moments—have been invaluable to me. Coming into the sport at a later age, that kind of trust was exactly what I needed, and I’m forever grateful for the opportunity they gave me to be part of the team. I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many amazing people through BMC Pro Triathlon Team, and I’m proud to call many of them my friends. The connections and relationships built here will stay with me forever.

As for highlights, I’d say that my second-place finish at Ironman Frankfurt in 2021 stands out, especially as my teammate Patrik Nilsson took the win. That race, along with my ITU World Championship Long-Distance title in the same year, are memories I will always cherish. Finishing my time with the team on the podium in the IRONMAN Pro Series with a 3rd place finish feels like a fitting way to part ways, and I’m thankful for all the support along the way. I’ve truly enjoyed the ride with the team, and while it’s difficult to move on, I wish nothing but the best for the team and everyone involved. I’m excited to see the continued success and growth that lies ahead for BMC Pro Triathlon Team”.

“A huge thank you for the incredible support and experience over the last two years”, adds Lucy Buckingham. “It has truly been an honour to be part of such a successful and iconic team. The camaraderie, professionalism, and dedication of everyone involved have made these years unforgettable. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together, and I’m deeply grateful for the opportunities and memories along the way”.
